The Los Gatos Social Club enjoyed a very successful week...we entertained Congressman Mike Honda, who has now been designated as our Special Ambassador to Washington. Mike had a good enough time that I think we can expect to see him again from time to time. In the meantime, Mike is doing his best to figure out who his party's nominee for president will be because he's serving both as a super delegate and as vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee. My suggestion to have Senator McCain watch over the White House for the next four years while they figured things out didn't exactly fly, but I'm going to keep trying.
OTHER NEWS:
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SECRETARY OF SKATE AND THE CONTESSA DiCOPA (Rich & Julie DiNapoli) as well as Ira Spector and Pam & Tim Murphy on what appears to be a final resolution of the Miles Avenue Skate Board Park...THERE WON'T BE ONE!!! This decided at last week's town council meeting & included a state-of-the-art presentation by our own Guru & Grand Poobah, Jonathan Knowles. In their search for an alternate location, the lovely town of Milpitas comes to mind.
ENOUGH TO MAKE A MOTHER PROUD - NICK'S ON MAIN STREET. Our own lovely, vivacious and very fun Ann Cali has, for several weeks now, been holding court at her son's new restaurant, Nick's on Main Street. Nick's is open for both lunch and dinner; and is about impossible to get into...unless, of course, you let Nick know that you are a close, personal friend of his mom's. If you haven't been there yet, and I know a whole bunch of us have, do so immediately. Nick's reputation from his successes at Cafe Marcella and Restaurant 180 proceed him; but, incredibly, he's gotten even better! More good news - we are in high level discussions via Ann with Nick for a special Los Gatos Social Club ONLY evening at Nick's ASAP.
THE LAS VEGAS SIX - Our own Social Club superstars Mary MacDonald, Kathy Linton, Linda Carter and Julie DiNapoli were joined by two other gorgeous young ladies who have now, as you may know, returned from their full fledged assault on the high morale standing of the City of Las Vegas. The tidbits are very juicy. albiet unprintable. Please see them in person for details.
GLYNNE LEWIS SEEKING NEW NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR - Los Gatos Social Clubber Glynne Lewis carefully choose a quiet place in a secluded neighborhood to move to since she sold her Monte Sereno home to our own Gayle Jones. Well, it was neither quiet nor secluded recently when a professional style murder occured right next door to her. Peggy O'Laughlin, Patrick's sister, is also an Overlook Road neighbor. The victim, Mark Acilli, was frequently in Gardino's at the back table where Pete & Tom Jillo entertain their friends while they attempt to get us to leave so they can close up. Mark will be truly missed by his many friends in our town.
FOOD AT LAST WEEK'S DINNER - Gardino's did an exceptional job for us last week. Highlights included beautifully prepared rack of lamb, fabulous sauteed shrimp and scallops and short ribs of beef that Tommy Jillo had cooked all day long for us. This meal was made even better by the fact that so many of you are bringing some superb wines. Keep up the good work!
THIS WEEK'S DINNER - We're on again for this Wednesday with cocktails @6:30 @45 Broadway followed by family style dinner @Gardino's...hope to see you then.
Best regards,
Peter
