News of the Week for The Los Gatos Social Club January 19, 2008

The Los Gatos Social Club enjoyed another nice dinner @Gardino's last Wednesday. We've been pleased that the food has been especially good, varied and plentiful the last several weeks, as has the quality and quantity of wine many of you are contributing.

About a half hour or so before we leave 45 Broadway for Gardino's, we call them and give them an approximate head count. Please let me know if you don't plan on coming down for dinner so I can be reasonably accurate on this count.

NEW TITLE, ADDED RESPONSIBILITIES FOR JEFF MILLER:

Jeff Miller, our Chairman of Vice who has generously picked up not one, but two tabs @Gardino's, has agreed to accept the addition title and responsibilities of Exchequer (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/exchequer). In his new role, Jeff will be collecting for dinner somewhat earlier in the evening to prevent last minute confusion. If any of you have intentions of picking up the tab, please let Jeff know in advance before he does the collection. Kathy Linton has eagerly accepted the post of Jeff's assistant in the event that he fails to show up or is otherwise incapacitated. Thanks to both Jeff & Kathy.

UPCOMING:

We will have our regular cocktails/dinner this next week on Wednesday, January 23. Hope you can make it.

Our First Annual Los Gatos Social Club Super Bowl Bash is scheduled for, you guessed it, Super Bowl Sunday - February 3rd @the fabulous home of Julie & Rick DiNapoli at the corner of Miles and Edelen near Old Town. More details next week. If anyone is interested in bringing something (besides adult beverages, of course), please let me know.

REPORT FROM OUR CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD:

Our illustrious founder and board chair, former Mayor and retired barrister Patrick O'Laughlin, has yet to send us a report from the field on his adventures heading south to Antarctica. We have, however, received a very informative email from Los Gatos Police Captain Duino Giordano (ret.) about Patrick that read as follows:

Peter

Jackie (Giordano) talked with Maggie (Kilkenny) and she has heard from Pat one time thus far. So far all seems to be going well.

Don't expect an e-mail from him. I would be shocked. Just before he departed I tried to show him on his computer how to pull his address up from a remote site. I found 1500 + e-mails on his computer and over 500 have not even been read. Even this dumb Dago knew more about computers then Pat and that is truly is scary.

Duino

Nothing quite as articulate as a highly trained law enforcement officer!!! Thanks for the update Duino.

NEW WEEKLY FEATURE - THE JOKE OF THE WEEK.

To break up the utter boredom of these weekly missives, we are initiating a "Joke of the Week" feature. You are invited to submit a joke or a video for consideration. Please exercise some measure of discretion, although lack of political correctness will not be frowned upon. Accordingly, this week's winner is:

It was March 6, 1836.

On that fateful day, Davy Crokett woke up and rose from his bunk on the main floor of the Alamo. He then walked up to the observation post along the west wall of the fort.

William B. Travis and Jim Bowie were already there, looking out over the top of the wall. These three great men gazed at the hordes of Mexicans moving steadily toward them.

With a puzzled look on his face, Crockett turned to Bowie and said, "Jim, are we having some landscaping done today?"

Future winners will be awarded a bottle of Dennise & Peter Carter's Famous Manhattans.

Best regards,

Peter
