News of the Week for The Los Gatos Social Club January 5, 2008

There is much to report this week regarding the activities of The Los Gatos Social Club.

1. Our Christmas dinner was a smashing success. We have over 300 photos to prove it; and sometime soon we'll get them posted to our web site. In the meantime, they are @45 Broadway to view on large contact sheets when you attend a weekly dinner. If you let me know the number of any photo you'd like, I'll be glad to make a print for you. I will also burn a disk for anyone who would like one. Thanks also to Christine Currie and Larry Wallerstein for contributing some terrific photos of the evening and to Susan for hosting a splendid cocktail hour.

2. We've held our first dinner for 2008...cocktails + Gardino's as usual on January 2. A very special thanks to Joanne Riley for picking up the tab! What a great way to start the year. Our executive committee is holding a series of special meetings to come up with a suitable title for Joanne. More news on this later.

3. Moscow Chapter of The Los Gatos Social Club established. Those fortunate enough to attend our first dinner of 2008 last Wednesday enjoyed meeting the (de facto) Mayor of Moscow, our special guest for the evening. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting The Mayor, he has an enormous number of things to distinguish him. Perhaps the most important is that he is Marilyn Dorsa's absolutely favorite child; and although he is often physically distant, he is never far from her heart. For a partial update on some of Bart's many, many activities, check: http://www.surlaterre.ru/en/people/?person=511 You can also Google Bart Dorsa Moscow for much more.

Bart has now been named the Commissar of the Kremlin Chapter of The Los Gatos Social Club. Dates are now under review for a visit of The Club to Moscow as Bart's guest. He plans a special dinner of cabbage soup, boiled potatoes and Bulgarian Cabernet Sauvignon in our honor. There will also be a large contingent of female and male fashion models on hand to entertain our single members.

Commissar Dorsa's chapter is now our second official beachhead in Europe...the first being our Fatima Chapter in Portugal headed up by Monsignor John Guilbert Mariani and headquartered in his religious retreat house at the base of a famous Moorish castle with Roman walls built on a Phoenician foundation. This chapter was established to provide us with a credible link to organized religion as well as acknowledge a second great Santa Clara Valley pioneer family. We now can boast both Cali and Mariani leadership.

4. We have our second "Report from the Field" from our Grand Pooh-Bah and Pooh-Bahess.
Report from the field.

As we continue our exploration of India, we are happy to report a break-through in our effort to increase the reach and influence of the Los Gatos Social Club.

As the success of the club can originally be attributed to three fine gentlemen of Los Gatos, we decided to replicate the model and identify 3 fine local gentlemen similar to our three founders, Patrick, Michael, and Peter.
This quest has taken us to fascinating locations in this exotic land. We have searched extensively for the appropriate candidates to fulfill this important role.

Today we are happy to announce that 3 have been selected. They resemble our founders not only in their philosophy of life, but in appearance as well. We challenge you to tell them apart from our illustrious founders after a 17 bottle night at Gardino's. Please welcome our newest members, Patrikahn, Miklarun, and Petshuran. Photo attached.

And this dispatch + photos just in:

We have been traveling in South India in the states of Goa, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
In addition to exploring 2000 year old cave temples hand carved in rock, we spent New Year's at Baga Beach in Goa with the "A list" Bollywood crowd, we spent several days traveling on the Deccan Odyssey, an "old school" luxury train (photo from the dining car attached), several days on the Indian backwater lakes of Kerala (photos attached), and tomorrow we are off to spend the remainder of our time deep in the Tamil Nadu jungle in the center of the Indian sub-continent.
We have sampled a variety of Indian delights including a few items we have yet to identify. And, yes, have been sampling Indian wines. Not bad, however we are looking forward to returning to our regular Wednesday night selections!

We return to the good old U.S.A. January 11th.

Wow!!! Now that's a tough act to follow...especially on the heels of their special Hong Kong dinner reported earlier.

5. Los Gatos Social Club Chairman packs flip flops and thermal underwear & heads for the Amazon and Antarctica. Our Chairman of the Board, Patrick O'Laughlin, is off on yet another adventure. This time it's an eight week cruise all the way around South America and up the Amazon. We look forward to Patrick's periodic dispatches from ship and shore plus his return when he plans on sharing a great variety of exotic diseases with all of us. Have fun Patrick!!!

6. Skate boarding down to Gardino's - last week, before we concluded cocktails and left for Gardino's, our friend, neighbor, member and 2009 Los Gatos Mayor elect Mike Wasserman updated us on the progress of Measure D, the great skate board initiative. We learned that as a group, we were scurrilously referred to in the local press as "one special interest group". Scroll to the bottom of http://losgatosobserver.com/los-gatos/Article.php?article_id=0662 for this reference. What the logger failed to mention is that our "special interest" is having a great time every Wednesday night. In the meantime, we invite him to get a life!

Skate boarding was also in the news just yesterday in the Mercury. http://www.mercurynews.com//ci_7875308?IADID=Search-www.mercurynews.com-www.mercurynews.com Please note that these lovely low lifes were not in East Los Angeles, or even in East San Jose, they were right next door in Willow Glen. Wouldn't it be nice to give them a $1 million subsidy + $50,000/year right here in Los Gatos for the rest of their perverted lives?

If any of you would like to have a "No on Measure D" sign for your yard, please contact Mike Wasserman at mwasserman@aol.com and Mike or Kim will see that a sign is delivered to your home. If you'd like a "Yes on Measure D" sign, check with those miscreants reported on above once the SJPD is done with them.

7. Other Social Clubbers on the move...our beloved Colleen Wilcox was off to Iowa this week where she hit the ground running on behalf of Hillary. Her efforts paid off handsomely. Hillary rocketed past Chris Dodd for a solid third place win. Congratulations Colleen! Elsewhere, Dennise & I along with Glynne Lewis and Janet & George Kennedy consumed a record nine pitchers of margaritas at the El Torito Sports Bar in Old Vallarta last Saturday night while watching the Patriots dispatch the Giants. Glynne, fyi, is an old Bostonian.

Last but not least, see you next Wednesday - cocktails @6:30 @45 Broadway. Dinner sometime thereafter @Gardino's. Bring a nice wine!

Happy New Year!!!

Peter
